Alison Bechdel, “Fun Home”

Alison Bechdel’s impeccably detailed, autobiographical comic “Fun Home” really struck a nerve with me, and I ripped through it pretty quickly. The story revolves around her dad, but encompasses her own coming out, revelations about his sexuality, their shared love of books, and growing up in the family funeral home.

What I liked: Everything. But especially the attention to detail, the incredible mix of stylized drawing and photorealistic drawing, the circular storytelling and warts-and-all inclusion.
What I didn’t like: Not a thing.
What I learned: The storytelling in this is incredible and something I’d love to emulate.
